image001 - NEW YORK OFFICER’S BUCKLE ON BROCADE SWORDBELT – INDIAN WAR & NICE!

Price: $475.00

This is a very nice Indian War period New York Officer’s brocade belt with hangers in excellent condition. The rectangular belt plate exhibits very fine detail to the old English style letters and background stippling. The belt is silver brocade over leather with blue trim for infantry. All the brocade is beautifully age toned but has come lose from the leather backing. The hangers are strong and complete with all the original brass hardware. The leather backing on the hangers appears to have been removed by the original owner for some reason and only the brocade with the hardware remains. This is still a fine looking sword belt that is totally un fooled with and in very nice shape.

image002 - CIVIL WAR INFANTRY OFFICER’S 9 BUTTON FROCK COAT – IDENTIFIED & SUPERB!

Price: $5,250.00

This is an exceptionally fine late Civil War Infantry Officer’s 9 button frock coat in excellent condition. This coat appears to be a private purchase piece and is cut in the classic style possessing all the characteristics of know Civil War frock coats. The coat is constructed from a fine navy blue Melton wool and features fully cut billowing sleeves, narrow stand up collar, a fully cut skirt, padded interior lining, proper Civil War infantry “I” buttons and officer’s shoulder boards. The coat has all nine of the front eagle “I” buttons in place with the very top button having come lose. I have pinned it in place. The buttons are unmarked on the reverse side but are still the correct unmarked Civil War type. The front seam of the coat is faced with a thin black tape material that runs from top to bottom, which is a custom made feature. The interior lining is of white muslin from the waist up with the skirt being lined in black polished cotton similar to that of the lining on the interior of the forage caps. The muslin lining is quilted as is typical to Civil War pieces and exhibits sweat stains and has turned to an even light brown color from age. There is a great deal of stitching to this lining giving it the padded look under the arms and in the front breast area. There is an interior slash pocket on the right side interior. There is a faded number “46” stenciled in black ink in the left back collar area. The numbers “35”, “32”, “2” and “96” are stenciled in black ink on the interior of the left sleeve area. In the shoulder blade area of the back lining is a faint maker’s stamping that is hard to read. It reads in part, “Charles G. … - 562 Seventh Ave – N.Y. City”. Stenciled in the middle back area of the lining is a larger letter and number, “G 3_” and the number “43”. The lining shows much use and staining but is still strong and solid. The back side of the coat has two eagle “I” buttons for the support of the sword belt. These are a perfect match to the 9 buttons on the front. The split tail is faced on one side with the same black tape material as is found on the front seam. There were two or three small eagle button sewn to the cuffs of the sleeves at one time but these are now missing. Sewn to each shoulder is a magnificent Second Lieutenant of Infantry, gold bullion bordered shoulder strap that is faced with light blue wool for infantry. These are in gorgeous condition and completely without damage of any kind. They are beautifully age toned and have obviously been on the jacket forever. The information that came with this frock coat was that it was first purchased in 1937 directly from the family of 2nd Lt. Era Lum, 32nd Kentucky Volunteer Infantry. This is only verbal documentation but comes from a reliable source as this frock coat was only in the hands of one collector since it was purchased in 1937. This is a fantastic looking frock coat and a magnificent piece of Civil War history that came directly from the family and straight out of the woodwork. Absolutely superb! The forage cap and sash are NOT included in this sale.

image003 - DUG CONFEDERATE BLOCK “I” BUTTON WITH STARS CIRCLING BORDER – SUPER RARE TIN BACK & EXCELLENT!

Price: $650.00

This is a super rare Civil War Copper face block “I” button with the stars circling the border in complete and excellent condition. This button has a perfect face with no pushes or dings and is complete with its full tin back AND eyelet. The tin is heavily rusted as can be expected after almost 150 years in the ground. The copper face is a thing of beauty to behold and with a deep and even reddish brown age patina overall. The eyelet is still strongly attached to the reverse side and is in excellent condition. This button was recently unearthed in the vicinity of Appomattox Court House by a local relic hunter who also had the good luck to find a second such button six inches away from in the exact same condition as this one. This second button is being offered as item #11 elsewhere in this section. This is an extremely scarce Confederate button that sells for over $2,500.00 in non-dug condition.

image005 - CIVIL WAR GAR MEDAL SET IN BAILEY, BANKS & BIDDLE CASE – EXQUISITE!

Price: $450.00

Here we have a beautiful Grand Army of the Republic medal set in a Bailey, Banks and Biddle presentation case that is in excellent condition. There are two medals in this set with one being a Post Commander’s medal and the other a standard GAR member’s medal. The Post Commander’s badge consists of the standard GAR star planchet suspended from a wide pale blue ribbon with vertical American flag embroidered on it. It is suspended from a broach that is a facsimile of an Infantry Colonel’s shoulder strap. This piece is flawless in condition with a strong, solid ribbon that exhibits vivid color, a perfect top broach with fully functional pin assembly and a finely defined bronze star planchet that retains much of the original luster. The medal has a VERY early number stamped into one of the arms that reads, “S 61”. The second medal is a standard type 5 GAR medal that is numbered “V 1613” on one of the arms. The star planchet is in excellent condition retaining virtually all of it original luster and exhibits very fine detail. It is suspended from a perfect American Flag ribbon with the eagle broach at the top having the camp fire logo on the reverse side and a complete and fully functional pin and catch assembly. The luster to the broach matches that of the planchet perfectly. Both medals are housed in a magnificent purple case made by the prestigious Philadelphia firm of Bailey, Banks and Biddle. The case is purple in color and has a hard lacquered exterior and a dual section interior for holding the medals. Each half of the case houses a single medal and has a plush purple pad on which the medal rests and a luxurious purple satin pad that forms a pocket for the planchet at the lower end. One of the pockets has the manufacturer’s name, “Bailey, Banks & Biddle Co., Philadelphia” in beautiful gold leaf script. The case measures 2 inches by 4 inches by 1 inch thick and shows some slight wear to the edges of the exterior. This is a superb ensemble of the highest quality and quite fitting for a former Civil War veteran now officiating as Post Commander of a GAR post.
