This is a stellar example of the German World War II Order of the German Eagle 3rd Class with swords in its original red leatherette presentation case. The enamel work on the cross is absolutely stunning and without flaw on either side. The silver gilt base metal has beautifully age toned which now sets off the white enamel gorgeously. The enamel down in the arms of the swastikas is flawless as well. The detail in the swordblades and in the hilts is exquisite and exhibits the highest degree of craftsmanship. The cross is suspended from its original ribbon, which is very crisp, and with vibrant colors. The original pin assembly is stitched to the top of the ribbon on the reverse side. The red leatherette case is also lawless. The hinge is still covered by 100% of its red leather cover and the brass closure hasp is complete and fully functional. The embossed gold nation emblem on the lid of the case is absolutely stunning retaining virtually 100% of its gold leaf. The interior of the lid has a white satin pillow with the name of the order, “Deutscher Adlerorden III. Stufe mit Schwarten” embossed in gold. The cross rests on a dark black velvet pad cut out to accept the order. The jumper ring is deeply and clearly incised with, “900” and “21” for the Godet & Sohn firm of Berlin. This decoration is an early, pre-1943 award in the 3rd Class and should not be confused with the 5th Class award that is very similar in appearance but was awarded after 1943 when the decoration’s award criteria was restructured. An absolutely breathtaking award in pristine condition.
